With National Tricone guitars selling for over $100 and the flashy brass-bodied Style 0 at $62.50 the fairly plain single-cone Triolian made the powerful National sound available to a much wider range of players. Made of slightly better grade materials than the bottom-of-the-line Duolian, the Triolian was extremely popular among Blues and Hillbilly musicians and is still an excellent choice for many styles of playing.

This 1931 example is in well-preserved original condition featuring a walnut enamel finished steel body with flat-cut F holes and a 12 fret maple neck with bound ebonized maple fingerboard. The coverplate is the rare "hooks" version that does not have mounting screws around the rim, but little flat hooks that engage the body-this is only seen around the 1931-2 period. Sunburst Triolians were hand-sprayed so no two are exactly alikethis one has fairly large mustard colored areas around the coverplate and F-holes and a medium-dark edge.

This is a completely original guitar with no changes, repairs or modifications-a one-owner piece directly from the original owner's daughter. He bought it new at the age of 16 and played it with a family band and at home for many years subsequently. We always are happy to get guitars with personal stories, and this Triolian definitely shows the effects of much loving use.

Overall length is 38 3/4 in. (98.4 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/4 in. (8.3 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/8 in. (48 mm.). The guitar is well played but completely unaltered. There is a lot of wear to the lower part of the fingerboard and most finish is worn away from the back of the neck, giving it the same feel as an old '50's Fender! The body has a couple of wear spots through the finish in the standard places where the player's fingers make contact. The enameled finish is otherwise fairly well preserved with some average edge chipping, the back is cleaner than many! This guitar sounds excellent, and plays quite well with a low action down by the nut and a 4/32" height at the 12th fret, high enough to make a slide play clean but not uncomfortable to finger. A really nice old National with a great story and vibe. Overall Very Good + Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_11109614-a11e-4769-8eb8-0551ce129594.jpg?v=1774330901
