While working mostly in the vintage National Resophonic pattern they are evolved designs embodying a mixture of old and new ideas. This Mule is an early example, serial #68 made for a specific player in 2015. It is a steel bodied single-cone resonator guitar with a heavily weathered natural look, not an exact repro of any particular National model but a combination of features from several.

The steel body has a raw metal look and is VERY heavily weathered, looking like it sat in a open barn garage alongside a '36 Ford for decades. The roasted maple neck is laminated from two pieces and has a heavily grained, dot inlaid ebony fingerboard with maple binding. The neck is fitted with an adjustable truss rod (a big plus compared to 1930s originals) and the slotted headstock mounts what appear to be older 1970s Grover Sta-Tite tuners. The instrument is electrified with a P-90 style magnetic pickup in the neck position with a single volume control mounted on the lower treble bout. This easy playing and big sounding resonator guitar comes in the very well-worn original tweed case with the original hand-written COA card.

Overall length is 39 1/8 in. (99.4 cm.), 14 1/4 in. (36.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/8 in. (7.9 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 13/16 in. (46 mm.).

This guitar was originally finished out in heavily "reliced" condition, and it has also been played over the last 10 years so it is difficult to say how much of the wear is aesthetic and how much is authentic. It certainly LOOKS like it lived on the Delta for decades!

There does appear to be some genuine wear from use; the center seam in the laminated maple neck shows a small resealed line between the third and fifth frets, solidly closed up but feelable. The back of the neck has a couple of small dinks. The frets and fingerboard show light wear, and one of the "ghost" dots covering a mounting screw at the 17th fret has fallen out. The guitar plays and sounds great both acoustically and electrically, housed in the original tweed HSC with a lot of travel wear but still solid. The original Mule ID info cards are included.
