This uke is not branded, but is definitely the product of the Kumalae shop in Honolulu. It is the same as their branded Style 1, the lowest graded Kumalae, having no ornamentation except a contrasting wood soundhole ring. This example carries a generic "Hawaii" headstock crest decal and no label, but does have the "TABU" stamp branded into the back of the headstock, the agreed-on trademark of actual Hawaiian manufacture. This uke is made of relatively plain koa, but is still a lovely instrument with a great period look and sound.

Overall length is 20 1/4 in. (51.4 cm.), 6 in. (15.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 7/16 in. (6.2 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 12 9/16 in. (319 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/16 in. (33 mm.). Some moderate wear and tear overall but still a lovely and very good sounding uke. There are several long back cracks and one on the treble side, solidly repaired but with some fairly sloppy touch-up applied. The tuners are old Grover-style friction pegs but not as old as the instrument, which most likely had wooden pegs when new. Overall a good playing example of a genuine Hawaiian ukulele from the early 20th Century. Overall Excellent - Condition.
