Summers Soprano Ukulele, c. late 1930's, made in Hawaii, natural lacquer finish, koa wood body and neck, original brown soft shell case.

A nice example of a just pre-WWII Hawaiian Ukulele, with features typical of the era. The Summers Brothers (Harold and Paul) taught and sold ukulele in Hawaii in the 1920's and 30's; a number of different styles of native ukes can be found with their labels inside. This is a Hawaiian koa uke built when the influence of the Martin instruments was increasingly felt; although constructed with a traditional two-piece heel and integral fingerboard, overall it resembles the typical Martin body and neck style more than older Nunes or Kumalae instruments. This is a very good-sounding and playing ukulele; the circular orange label inside reads "Harold L. Summers Genuine Waikiki Koa Ukulele; Made in Hawaii-Paradise".

Overall length is 20 7/8 in. (53 cm.), 6 1/4 in. (15.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 1/2 in. (6.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 13 1/2 in. (343 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/2 in. (38 mm.).

Appears all original. Several small repaired cracks and some finish wear, but overall very nice. Excellent Condition.
Harold F.
