harmony-silhouette-h-19-solid-body-electric-guitar-1965-9194
Harmony Silhouette H-19 Solid Body Electric Guitar (1965)
Harmony Silhouette H-19 Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1965), made in Chicago, sunburst lacquer finish, hardwood body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original two-tone chipboard case.

This Model H-19 was Harmony's best solid-body offering in the mid-'60s, a comparatively fancy guitar with relatively pro-grade fittings. The "Silhouette" has a vaguely Fenderesque sunburst-finished offset body shaped somewhat differently from the more familiar, cheaper "Bobkat" H15 series. It is equipped with two gold foil DeArmond pickups with adjustable poles and a Hagstrom "Adjust-O-Matic" bridge and "TREMAR" system -- the same as Guild used on their solid-bodies.

The high-grade Harmony neck has a rosewood fingerboard with multiple bindings and pearloid block inlay, with a Fender-y single-sided headstock. This guitar has pot codes dating to the 40th week of 1964, so it was sold for Christmas that year or in early 1965. By 1966 the H-19 listed at $177.50, plus $21.00 for the case, which was quite expensive for a Harmony solid-body! This is a nice-playing and great-sounding little guitar, and though probably not going to replace anyone's Jazzmaster anytime soon, it still has its own merits. A lovely instrument...especially for Harmony!

Overall length is 39 1/4 in. (99.7 cm.), 13 1/8 in. (33.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 in. (610 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

Stunningly well-preserved, this guitar looks like it has hardly ever been played or even handled much over the last 50+ years. There is a small strap burn spot on the back and a few tiny dinks in the finish, but other than these, there is hardly any wear. One screw head on the pickguard is missing down by the neck, a victim of celluloid shrinkage. Everything else is intact and completely original.

The neck is lovely, nice, and straight (with a working truss rod), and the frets look practically new. An amazing time capsule, complete with original strap and paperwork in the original case (which has a repaired handle and what looks like a dog or rodent chew spot on the back edge!). If you've been looking for one of these, it would be hard to get a Silhouette nicer than this!
