harmony-holiday-h-22-electric-bass-guitar-1966-6170
Harmony Holiday H-22 Electric Bass Guitar (1966)
Holiday H-22 Model Electric Bass Guitar, made by Harmony (1966), made in Chicago, serial # 5498H22, laminated maple body, maple neck with fingerboard.

One of the 1960's finest bass bargains, the Harmony H-22 "Hi Value" Electric Bass retailed originally at $99.50 and was the company's first bass guitar offering. The H-22 was officially introduced in Harmony's 1962 catalog, it remained pretty much the same into the late '60's when the body design was altered to a double cutaway. This instrument carries a "Holiday" logo indicating it was sold by Aldens, a Chicago catalog company that Harmony supplied with re-branded instruments-it is otherwise identical to the standard model. The only other difference on this bass from earlier-60's H-22's is the wooden tailpiece with a metal cover has been replaced by a single stamped metal unit.

The very lightweight flat-topped fully hollow body features one excellent sounding DeArmond pickup, mounted down by the neck. The neck itself is thick but comfortable, with a 30" scale dot-inlaid rosewood fingerboard. The bass's most distinctive cosmetic feature is the large white plastic off-center pickguard, which certainly gives it an unmistakable look! Controls are simple, with single tone and volume knobs and large "klunk" switch that works with the tone control for instant tone modification.

The H-22 was used extensively in the mid-1960's by both Muff Winwood in the Spencer Davis Group and Ronnie Lane of the Small Faces, and its aggressively thumpy tone can be clearly heard on many recordings. Popular up into the late 1960's, the H-22 has recently again become a much sought-after item, with new generations of players discovering its quirky charm, extremely easy handling and excellent sonic qualities.

Overall length is 44 5/8 in. (113.3 cm.), 15 5/8 in. (39.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 29 3/4 in. (756 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). Very good playing condition with some general finish wear and dings, the largest being one belt-buckle mark on the back. The pickguard is a repro (most of 'em are!) but all else is original. Nice straight neck, a very good player with the typical excellent punchy sound. Overall Excellent - Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_a8cb9472-12bb-4a83-8ee2-acc519516d4e.jpg?v=1774329246
