harmony-flat-back-mandolin-1925-1624
Harmony Flat Back Mandolin (1925)
Flat Back Mandolin, most likely made by Harmony, c. 1925, made in Chicago, natural lacquer finish, spruce top, mahogany body and neck.

Nice example of a typical Chicago-made flat back mandolin from the 1920's. All solid wood construction, elaborate colored wood trim around top, white celluloid bound top and fingerboard. Ebony fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, inlaid celluloid pickguard.

These style mandolins are very similar to those made by the Larson brothers in Chicago, and are often seen optimistically credited to them. While not the equal to a Larson, this is a quality instrument made of good woods from the 1920's, a far cry from Harmony's later Depression-era output.

Sold by most major jobbers, these were a less expensive alternative to a Gibson, Martin, Vega, or other branded instrument.

Overall length is 24 3/8 in. (61.9 cm.), 9 1/16 in. (23 cm.) width, and 2 1/2 in. (6.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 13 in. (330 mm.).

Very nice overall condition; all original except repro bridge. Light finish wear, marks on top from old bridge placement, and one dented in area near tailpiece missing about 3/4" of inlay. Sounds and plays very well. No case. Very Good + Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_6af99b69-7db8-4635-8b5a-9c5429aa7708.jpg?v=1774331252
