This is a 1965 natural-top F-30, the midline, mid-size model in Guild's 1960's line. The mahogany & spruce F-30 stood above the smaller all mahogany M-20 (famously regarded as the "Nick Drake" guitar) and similar F-20, the same size and shape with a spruce top. The larger-body F-30 is more akin to a Martin 000, a smooth finger-or-flatpicking guitar with a vibrant midrange sound which works equally well as a strummed chord machine.

The natural top finish top (designated "NT" on the label) was officially an option but in practice more common than the standard sunburst. The original tuners on this guitar are openback strip Dutch-made VanGhents of a type rarely seen on American guitars. The instrument dates to early 1965, the peak year of the guitar boom, and parts shortages at Guild's Hoboken plant may well have been the cause of this hardware choice. Regardless, this is an extremely well-built guitar, much lighter than 1970's Guilds and easily on par with similar size Martin or Gibson offerings from the same era. This example is a good player, well preserved overall, a light and responsive guitar with a fine sound.

Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 15 1/4 in. (38.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 in. (10.2 cm.) in depth at side. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). This example has only some light/moderate play wear and remains a very playable and well preserved instument overall. The neck has been reset sometime back-a good solid job but visible on close inspection. The bridge has been re-glued at some point but remains full height with quite a uit of saddle. There is a not a lot of finish wear overall; the top has some pick scratches but nothing to excessive; there is a bit of finish touch-up and polish-out in the area over the soundhole. The back of the neck has what looks like a small grain crack behind the first-second fret area; there is also some very slight scraping in the finish down to the wood from the first to 5th fret area. This is all very solidly sealed with some fairly discreet finish touch-up to the area affected. There are a few dings through the finish on the top, with one touched up in front of the bridge, and a couple of scratches to the back. There is one solidly repaired but visible top crack, near the pickguard top edge in the typical spot running back to the bridge. The original VanGent strip tuners are still intact and working, for some reason someone wrote the letter "N" on each strip, and the name "Niden" is lightly visible on the back of the heardtock under the serial number in some sort of marker. This is very inconspicuous. This is a good playing, light and responsive guitar with a powerful somewhat dry and rather woody sound. Excellent - Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_cfb3d362-6caf-4bd1-ab36-83ef04c235a5.jpg?v=1774330586
