guild-d-25-flat-top-acoustic-guitar-1968-6525
Guild D-25 Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1968)
Guild D-25 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1968), made in Hoboken, NJ, natural mahogany finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, original molded black plastic hard shell case.

The often very fine sounding Guild flattops of the 1960's can be surprisingly hard to find these days. The D-25 was Guild's least expensive Dreadnought guitar in the late '60's, built with a mahogany top instead of the usual spruce. It is a fairly rare model as it was introduced in 1968 and thus only a couple hundred at the most were produced in the Hoboken factory before the company moved its operations to Westerly, Rhode Island. With an unusually large body for an all-mahogany guitar, the D-25 has a different tonal character from any other period dreadnought. This mid-60's model is still quite lightly built, especially compared to later Westerly-made Guilds. With no binding and only the plainest inlay the D-25 has a very austere look but a smooth, expansive sound with a nice midrange chunk and incisive top end. Tuners are the original Japanese-made strips Guild employed at this time and the headstock is faced with the typical Guild plastic overlay, with none of the common shrinkage. The neck is slim and comfortable, somewhat in between typical Martin and Gibson spec, and this fairly unique guitar is different from anything either company was producing in 1968. A nice example of a guitar that-considering the greater interest in all-mahogany Dreadnoughts in recent years-was rather ahead of its time.

Overall length is 41 1/2 in. (105.4 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/4 in. (12.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). This D-25 has had some fairly recent work performed and is an excellent player. The neck has been reset with some attendant overspray on the heel and the area around the fingerboard; it has also had an excellent pro refret with the correct style wire. There are some dings and chips to the finish overall, most notable a large chip to the side of the fingerboard by the 12th fret. Really not a lot of wear overall; this is a very good playing and excellent sounding guitar with a unique tone. Excellent - Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_a2e17278-8f53-48fb-895b-d74a415bae94.jpg?v=1774329627
