Although the least expensive instrument in the Chet Atkins line, the Tennessean was a relatively upscale guitar with a "Gretsch by Bigsby" vibrato and two Hi-lo'tron pickups. It cost the not inconsiderable sum of $350.00 in 1962, the year it replaced the earlier full hollow body single-pickup 6119.

This example features the earliest unbound stenciled-on "f-holes" which are hard to see on the dark finished body, no doubt why a white border was added to them within a year or so. These early Tennesseans also have openback Waverly tuners rather than the Van Ghents used later, and no headstock plaque. The 6119 remained the only single-cutaway guitar amongst the Atkins line, the Country Gentleman and 6120 becoming double-cutaways at the time.

This particular guitar has an excellent neck angle (often a sore point of this model) and is a relatively rare instrument, as many more Tennesseans were built around 1964-66. Many 1960s artists made extensive use of this popular model, including George Harrison (most notably in the film "HELP!" and the Beatles '65 tours) and David Crosby of The Byrds. Gerry Marsden (Gerry and the Pacemakers) is often pictured with an early Tennessean exactly like this one.

Overall length is 42 1/2 in. (108 cm.), 15 3/4 in. (40 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 in. (5.1 cm.) deep. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.).

All original with only very light finish and playing wear. All lacquer and plating intact and still has a nice shine. Currently set up with a TV Jones Filter'Tron in the bridge position. The original HiLo'tron pickup is fully functional and included with the guitar; it can be easily remounted with no alteration to the instrument.

The original pickguard is also included, but has major cracking and a rather ill-fated repair attempt; the guitar is currently set up with an excellent repro pickguard, which looks great. The guitar plays and sounds excellent and includes the original silver/grey Tolex case. Excellent Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_b5f11548-ff61-4bf8-a5aa-ffafba9d22ad.jpg?v=1774333093
https://retrofret.com/products/gretsch-chet-atkins-tennessean-px-6119-thinline-hollow-body-electric-guitar-1962-2465
