gibson-ub-2-banjo-ukulele-1926-7511
Gibson UB-2 Banjo Ukulele (1926)
Gibson UB-2 Model Banjo Ukulele, c. 1926, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, brown stain finish, laminated maple rim, maple neck, gig bag case.

This is very nice early example of the UB-2, the first re-designed "Mastertone" era banjo-uke. This was the first model illustrated in Gibson's catalogs and quite likely the first one issued, followed shortly by the 6-inch rim UB-1 and the full resonator-and-flange UB-3 and UB-4. UB-2's are most commonly seen with brown mahogany or sunburst finishes, often with more binding and diamond fingerboard inlay. This elegantly simple original version with a plain unbound neck and large dot inlay is something of a rarity.

The UB-2 features an 8-inch head, closed back with a flat plate resonator, maple neck and rim with a rosewood fingerboard and bone nut. A single Gibson co-ordinator rod (a new device at the time) allows the neck angle to be adjusted. These are great-sounding banjo ukes as well as a neat Gibson collectible. This one is nicely original and an excellent player.

Overall length is 21 1/2 in. (54.6 cm.), 8 in. (20.3 cm.) diameter head, and 3 1/8 in. (7.9 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 14 in. (356 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.). Very nice overall, clean and all original except a newer bone nut. The plating shows some typical wear but overall this instrument does not show a lot of play wear. A very good sounding instrument, louder than it looks! Overall Excellent - Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_368a4cb2-5d5e-4c04-8d79-2c06ef26414c.jpg?v=1774340012
