gibson-lg-2-flat-top-acoustic-guitar-1948-8340
Gibson LG-2 Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1948)
Gibson LG-2 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1948, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst lacquer finish, mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top, rosewood bridge and fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.

This is a nice early example of the classic LG-2, Gibson's most popular smaller body flat-top guitar model from the 1940s and '50s. The typical features include a deep sunburst top finish, small tortoise celluloid pickguard, small rectangle bridge, triple-bound top, and single-bound back. The postwar block script Gibson logo is the earliest version with the "joined" dot, on a headstock still showing the prewar tapering sides. The neck has a lovely round-backed "C" profile, much slimmer than the wartime "baseball bat" style and very comfortable. Overall an extremely nice instrument, showing some repairs but appearing not heavily played in 70 or so years.

Overall length is 39 1/8 in. (99.4 cm.), 14 3/16 in. (36 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/8 in. (11.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

Overall this is a a very clean and excellent playing guitar with some well-executed repairs. The neck has been reset and the bridge reglued, and it has been very neatly refretted with period correct wire. There is a long spruce grain crack to the top just below the lower edge of the pickguard, and another just below the treble side of the fingerboard. There is one repaired grain crack lengthwise thru the bass side of the bridge, solidly sealed but visible.

There is some overspray to the finish around the heel and fingerboard edge, but the rest of the original finish is undisturbed. The pickguard itself is replaced, with as close to the original style celluloid as is obtainable. The tuners are original openback Kluson strips with replaced buttons. The finish on this guitar shows small dings, scrapes and checking with a bit of pickwear by the soundhole, but overall is remarkably clean and shiny for an instrument of this age. It plays extremely well with a crisp and powerful sound, still with the typical Gibson warmth and sheen. Excellent - Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_5314e40a-7119-4648-9190-f0e0ac71e3a2.jpg?v=1774334035
