These were offered in both a standard VOS (Vintage Original Spec) finish and an aged Tom Murphy version. This is the VOS model without the artificial aging, carrying serial number MB-188 of the limited run of 200. These guitars were based on the specs of Bloomfield's famous 1959 Les Paul, which he used on the second Butterfield Blues Band LP, with the Electric Flag and beyond before abandoning it in Canada in the mid-70s.

Gibson's official specs included: Carved figured maple top on a solid, non-weight relieved mahogany body with a special "Bloomfield Burst" finish and single-ply cream binding on the top. All hardware is nickel plated including the ABR-1 Bridge and lightweight stop-bar tailpiece; another period touch is the thin vintage-correct toggle switch washer and jackplate. The one-piece mahogany neck has a long tenon with the 1959 rounded neck profile. The holly veneered headstock has Grover Rotomatic tuners as the original was fitted with even before Bloomfield owned it. The BurstBucker 1 (neck) and 2 (bridge) pickups are wired to CTS pots and bumble bee capacitors for the most authentic sonics.

The guitar includes a black Custom Shop case with Bloomfield's signature reproduced on the lid and a certificate of authenticity in the pocket. These models were only offered for a limited time and the edition quickly sold out; even when new this quickly became one of the more well regarded of the many 'burst recreations Gibson has offered. This "VOS" model shows very light use, plays and sounds great and is a worthy tribute to its namesake.

Overall length is 39 in. (99.1 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 in. (5.1 cm.) in depth at side. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.)., 9.42 lbs.

This 15+ year old guitar appears little used, with some light handling wear to the finish and the frets looking practically unplaced. Some scuffing to the plastic backplates and pickguard is the most notable wear. This is an excellent playing and sounding instrument, a lovely tribute to America's first guitar hero.
