The headstock logo is still the pre-war Gibson script; the tuners are wartime flat-plate Kluson individual units with plastic buttons. The neck is equipped with a truss rod but still has the feel of the substantial chunky round-backed profile of many wartime guitars. The top and back have heavy triple binding; the fingerboard and headstock are single bound. The tailpiece is an off-the-shelf Waverly trapeze that is not common on Gibsons but may have been all that was available at the time! This is a very good player with a nice chunky midrange sound, well capable of sounding sweet while having a substantial reserve for pushing into swing rhythm territory.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 42 in. (106.7 cm.), 17 in. (43.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 5\/8 in. (9.2 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1\/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11\/16 in. (43 mm.). \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis is a lovely original guitar; there is some scuffing and checking to the finish on the face with small dings and chips here and there, but overall it is nicely preserved. There is a repaired crack to the side on the upper treble bout, solidly sealed but still visible. There are a couple of small finish chips to the back of the neck and a scrape on the back of the guitar, and some moisture wear and added touch-up into the back finish in one spot on the lower bout. The pickguard is a recent repro; the original bracket is intact. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe guitar plays and sounds excellent. A nice example of the rarely seen earliest post-WWII Gibson archtops. As a bonus, it comes in one of the nicest pre-war style red-line cases we have ever seen!
