At first glance, this appears to be a standard early-1930's L-4 with stock features. Upon closer examination, however, the back and sides prove to be made of mahogany, while the L-4 is always listed as maple. The post-1935 L-75 was the next model down the line, and this WAS a 16\" mahogany round hole mahogany guitar...but this guitar carries the ornamentation of an L-4, not an L-75. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe label would usually settle this question, but in this case it appears to be an older reproduction with a serial # that is not in the proper sequence for this era. So what exactly is this guitar -- a mahogany L-4? An upscale L-75? Whatever its designation, it is a fine-sounding, round-hole archtop with a slim \"V\" neck and a big, chunky sound. A great early swing guitar.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eHeight is 40 1\/4 in. (102.2 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 5\/8 in. (9.2 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3\/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3\/4 in. (44 mm.). \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAppears all original except repro label (as noted) and exact repro pickguard. Structurally excellent with some light wear and signs on the finish of the deterioration of a previous pickguard. An unusual and interesting guitar that is also a very nice player.
