gibson-j-45-flat-top-acoustic-guitar-1952-7494
Gibson J-45 Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1952)
Gibson J-45 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1952), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # Z2697-13 (FON), sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top, rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.

Gibson's signature slope-shouldered Jumbo flat-top guitars have remained extremely popular since the 1930's with Folk, Blues and Pop players, and picking this one up it's easy to see why. This 1952 J-45 is a very comfortable guitar with a sleek, round neck-much less chunky than the late '40's versions- and a powerful but still sweet sound. This example has seen some typical repair work but retains all of its original character and remains an excellent player's guitar. It has several era-specific features including the early style small tortoise celluloid pickguard, "belly up" rosewood bridge, gold decal "Gibson" block script logo and Kluson Deluxe strip tuners with plastic buttons. The sunburst top finish has a subtle shading in the darker look typical of the period. The J-45 is the absolutely classic Gibson Jumbo that has proven the company's favorite flat top offering over the years, loved by players in many styles.

Overall length is 40 1/2 in. (102.9 cm.), 16 3/8 in. (41.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 15/16 in. (12.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). This is a relatively clean and very fine playing guitar overall with a few typical repairs and moderate play wear. The top shows some random pickwear but none of the large spots of strumming damage J-45's often seem to accumulate. The guitar looks to have had a very clean neckset and the original bridge has been replaced with an exact replica-there is some touch-up to the finish around it mostly on the forward edge. There is one repaired grain split on the top edge of the pickguard, running into the soundhole-tight but visible. The back center seam has been resealed, and there is one repaired back crack near the edge of the treble side. The back of the neck shows very little play wear-only a few tiny dings. The finish still retains its original patina with typical light checking mostly to the top. There is an added strap button to the heel. This is a fine playing and great sounding guitar, with little wear to the original frets and a most comfortable action. We are always looking for good J-45's, and this one definitely qualifies!
