The body shape, tortoise binding, black plastic teardrop pickguard, and bottom-belly rosewood bridge are all more reminiscent of the D-18 than earlier J-45 models. Even the subtly-shaded sunburst is somewhat Martin-like�although Martin never shot their sunburst over the soundhole rings, as Gibson did here! The neck is quite narrow and has a shallow \"C\" profile, making it quite a fast guitar to play�the one indisputably Gibson feature, topped with the distinctive \"open-book\" headstock. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhile Gibson flat tops from this era have a lackluster reputation, we find this to be a surprisingly warm sounding and easy playing guitar, with plenty of volume and a nice ring to it. This is a one-owner guitar -- albeit one owner who played it quite extensively -- and seems to have some \"played-in soul\"! A genuine old Gibson at a relatively low-budget price, with an original period case.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 41 1\/2 in. (105.4 cm.), 15 15\/16 in. (40.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3\/4 in. (12.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1\/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11\/16 in. (43 mm.). \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAverage wear overall. Some heavy dings; finish worn down on the back of the neck and both sides of the soundhole edge. There are unfilled holes for a strap pin (upper bout side) and a jack (lower bout side), and the bridge has been reglued some time back but is very solid. Overall a well-used guitar, but plays perfectly and sounds quite nice.
