gibson-heritage-flat-top-acoustic-guitar-1965-6359
Gibson Heritage Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1965)
Gibson Heritage Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1965), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, natural lacquer finish, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

The Heritage was designed as Gibson's challenge to Martin for the expanding Bluegrass market of the 1920's. With a solid rosewood back and sides and ebony fingerboard this is quite a deluxe guitar despite its rather Spartan appearance. It is actually most similar to Martin's D-21, with plain dark binding and a simple unbound fingerboard and decal logo. The tuners are nickel-plated Kluson "waffleback" individual units with metal buttons, more often seen on 1950's guitars. This guitar was built in 1965, the model's first year and is constructed using all solid woods-this was changed within a couple of years. The Heritage is a rather forgotten Gibson model, a high-grade guitar that doesn't carry the company's traditional flashy cosmetic touches. The most well-known users were the Rolling Stones; both guitarists got one from Gibson in 1965 as part of their endorsement deal. Keith Richards played his quite a bit, most visibly on the Ed Sullivan Show. The Heritage is an unusual Gibson flattop, but it an extremely good value in a vintage rosewood flattop from the 1960's.

Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 15/16 in. (12.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). Very nice overall condition; there is some general light wear and checking over the entire guitar and a few noticeable dings and scratches to the top finish. The only notable defect is a small repair just on the bottom edge of the pickguard where the spruce was pulled up; it is solid but not as neatly done as we might prefer. The ebony bridge has likely been reglued but that is a very neat job; there is also a small sealed crack between the pins. A (Gibson) strap button has been added at the heel. The guitar plays very well and has a lovely deep sound, as Gibson intended. Includes the deluxe black-with-yellow-lining OHSC. Excellent - Condition.
