By the early '70's the original Firebird was a much-sought after guitar, leading Gibson to re-issue the FB V as a limited edition "medallion" model in 1972. The 1976 Firebird represents a more substantial re-introduction, and the revamped model was in production for about three years. This edition is a mix of features from the older 'birds-the bound, dot inlaid fingerboard resembles the original Firebird III, while the gold-plated hardware was only used on the top-line VII model in the '60's. This bird also eschews the originals' vibrato tailpiece for a Tune-O-Matic/stoptail setup as was popular in the '70's, when rock players generally wanted the most tension possible over the bridge. The Bird logo on the pickguard was altered slightly to reflect the US Bicentennial in 1976; this particular guitar is a first-year model. An excellent playing and sounding guitar, one of the best Gibson ideas from the 1970's.

Overall length is 45 in. (114.3 cm.), 13 1/2 in. (34.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/8 in. (2.9 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). All original and quite clean overall; there is some minor finish wear and scuffing overall but no heavy wear. The gold plating has some tarnish and scuffing but is fairly well intact except for one tailpiece stud is worn down. The guitar has never had a headstock break or crack; there is a dark spot to the finish just behind the nut where there a small overspray and polish-it appears perhaps the center seam in the neck laminate was resealed at some point. This does not affect the instrument in any functional way, but is noticeable. The guitar plays extremely well and is an especially nice example of the Bicentennial 'Bird. Excellent Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_18d4a9df-fd86-42e1-8604-6e94ee82bc16.jpg?v=1774330575
