The great-feeling clay-dot neck is original dated March 1964, retaining the original very worn thin lacquer finish, decal and tuners but with a later jumbo refret. The body is original but has been refinished at least twice; it currently sports a lovely and very accurate Daphne Blue hue. The pin marks in the back are detectable and correct, a few touches of the original sunburst finish can be seen in the cavities along with traces of a later red finish. There is a small red ink stamp dated 1964 in the control cavity; this was not standard practice so we cannot verify this as original but it is quite old.

The pickguard is a very nice repro of the lovely slightly greenish nitrocellulose plastic used in 1964; the entire wiring rig is modern including a 5-way switch. All three pickups are custom wound by Flametone in Italy; these sound great and are gaining a strong reputation. The tone circuit is wired to affect the neck and bridge pickups instead of neck and middle; some players find this more useful but it can be altered if desired to the conventional mode.

The bridge and saddles are original with a decent amount of wear; three of the springs are original and two appear newer. The jack cup appears to be a modern reliced piece; the upper strap button is original to the period while the lower is Fender from a slightly later period. The string tree looks more recent as well. The neckplate is an authentic fender piece but with a high L-series number more typical of mid-late 1965 than 1964.

This is a great-sounding, beautiful looking medium weight resonant "Gigger" Strat redolent of the era just before "things started a-changin" in Fullerton after the January 1965 sell-out to CBS. Although the guitar is heavily re-worked long ago its playing and sonic character remain intact; all three pickups have a nice 1960s sheen, powerful and crisp with a very full tone. The body finish is beautifully done with no artificial "relicing" and the original neck has a killer naturally worn-in vibe that modern artificial ageing never really captures. It is still housed in a very worn but genuine original white Tolex case.

Overall length is 39 3/4 in. (101 cm.), 12 3/4 in. (32.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) deep. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.)., 7.52 lbs.

As noted above this guitar has bee assembled from different sources, although the neck, tuners, body and bridge assembly are likely from a single instrument dating to early/mid 1964. the neck is very heavily played with the typically great "worn in Fender" feel; there is even a "classic" cigarette bur on the heavily worn headstock. The original decal has some wear but it largely intact.

The frets are older but larger than 1960s wire, more typical of the '70s and '80s; the nut is later as well. The fingerboard was trued but not overly heavily planed along the way and still shows some old wear in the first position. The tuners and saddles show quite a bit of corrosion and wear but all work as intended. No trem bar is included.

The body finish is a super pro job with a great natural patina and some light wear; some old marks can still be seen under the finish. The later hardware has some light wear as well. This is a great looking and looking super-friendly player Strat at a piece some today are asking for a 1964 neck alone; the original case is well-worn but a bonus! Overall Very Good + Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_6e27c0ec-b1f2-42b3-95dc-da2a04ebc174.jpg?v=1779904049
