It was built not long after the Fender sell-out to CBS in January 1965; the stamped neck date on this guitar is August '65 and the pots date to the 30th week of that year. The typical 1965 features include an unbound fingerboard with pearloid dot inlay, bright 3-color \"target\" sunburst lacquer finish on the body, and gold transition logo headstock decal. The pickguard is still the older nitrocellulose tortoise style, then being phased out at Fender in favor of a thinner (and less flammable!) ABS plastic unit. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEven having recently undergone a revival of sorts, the Jaguar remains a somewhat under-appreciated guitar with several interesting features. The scale length is shorter than other professional-grade Fender guitars at 24\", a feature designed to enhance playability. The two-circuit wiring and floating vibrato are shared with the Jaguar's ancestor, the Jazzmaster, but the guitar actually feels quite different. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe unique Jaguar pickups with the chrome-plated \"claw\" baseplate are optimized for clarity and crispness�factors that led to the Jaguar losing popularity in the late '60s as twang went out and distortion and crunch came in! Nevertheless, these are top-of-the line 60s Fenders and very high quality guitars, still a relative bargain in a 1960s Fender instrument. We've been setting these up recently in 1964 style, with flatwound 12s and folks are loving it! The Twang of the ages lives on...\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5\/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 in. (610 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5\/8 in. (41 mm.). \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis Jaguar is very clean overall, with only some light play wear. This is also a nicely original guitar; all finish and hardware present and original except the tuners, which have been changed back to repro Kluson Deluxe style. Something else was on at one point and left only some visible pressure rings on the headstock face -- no errant screw holes are visible. The frets are original and have been taken down a bit in the lower positions, but remain quite playable.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThere is one \"dink\" into the fretboard on the 7th fret that left a visible mark, but does not affect play. Someone played a lot of \"cowboy chords\" on this guitar and there are some smooth divots in the fingerboard in the first position only; the back is a bit worn down as well. There is some edge wear, dings, and random scrapes, but the finish overall is bright and unfaded and the face in particular is quite attractive. This is a great-playing and very well-cared for guitar; the original case even has a sticker showing a previous owner was a member of the electrical workers' union!
