This bass was built near the end of the run for the rather whimsical 'competition' version of the model, with the blue metallic 'car' finish and 'racing' stripe on the body but a natural headstock.

The Mustang Bass, introduced in 1966, is still one of the best short-scale basses ever designed as well as Leo Fender's last original design for the company that bore his name. This one has the neck dated Jul 72 but all features (including the snazzy pearloid pickguard) are nearly identical to 1960's models.

A fine-playing bass and a neat piece of Fender history.

Overall length is 42 1/8 in. (107 cm.), 12 1/4 in. (31.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) deep. Scale length is 30 in. (762 mm.). All original, missing only the rubber pads for the mutes. Plays and sounds excellent with some minor finish and plating wear, most noticeable in the upper bout "racing stripe" area. Excellent Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_9e1567f9-b823-4158-9fbe-ec8ed11915b7.jpg?v=1774332158
