This was the company's fancier guitar model introduced late in the 1950's, available in white or walnut finish with one, two or three lipstick pickups. This early two-pickup Model 6026 Deluxe listed at $120 (plus case) when new, a stone bargain even by the standards of the day. Despite this the Deluxe is rarely seen, outsold by a huge margin by the more affordable "Standard" model (at all of $20.00 less). While cataloged into the mid 1960s they seem to have been rarely made at all after the first couple of years.

Built on the same basic double-cutaway body and neck as the celebrated Standard U-2 "Jimmy Page" model, the Deluxe offered fancier cosmetics and trim. "Enduring beauty added to the famous Danelectro quality" enthused the 1959 catalog. The white finish top ("Baked", according to the literature) has a contrasting dressed-away Masonite edge and walnut-topped glued-on pickguard, with the regular white vinyl siding used on all Dannos. The white lacquer finished neck has the standard dot-inlaid rosewood fingerboard, with a matching "Coke bottle" headstock mounting Kluson Deluxe tuners.

This Deluxe is a very early example with a factory stamp indicating fabrication in mid-1958. The wiring rig is something of a mystery; usually the two-pickup Deluxe features the "feather touch" circuit with two concentric volume pots pre-wired for tonal effect with 2-way on/off "flipper" controls on the top. This guitar has instead the more versatile twin concentric tone-and-volume dual-knob setup with no switch. Internally the components appear to be proper period Danelectro pots and wiring with pots coded 137 739 dating to 1957. Many of these were rewired long ago; we don't know if this is an early outlier, or was redone at some point but the net result is a better sounding, more versatile guitar. The knobs are correct period Danelectro parts as well, but not what is usually seen on this model. While we can't say for sure if it is 100% original this is a great playing and sounding, seldom seen piece of Neptune cool.

Overall length is 38 7/8 in. (98.7 cm.), 13 1/4 in. (33.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This guitar is a nice player showing some wear and tear but nothing too serious. The finish is all original, the white lacquer on the body showing fine checking with small dings and chips all along the edges but no major wear. The white-painted neck shows some heavier dings and dents and a worn-to-the-sealer coat spot in the first position. For some reason the headstock has the heaviest wear with dings and chips all along the edges. The screened logo on the headstock has rubbed away somewhat with everything south of "DANELE" down to a ghost image and there is a sticker stain on the back below the tuners.

The hardware shoes some general wear, most notable the tuner housings which have noticeable corrosion. As noted the entire wiring rig is vintage Danelectro but we cannot say for sure if it is original to this guitar; in any event everything works fine and sounds great. The original frets show some light wear but nothing too serious. This is a very cool and good playing old Danelectro complete with an original Danelectro trapezoidal Masonite HSC.
