c-f-martin-style-2-soprano-ukulele-1923-3334
C. F. Martin Style 2 Soprano Ukulele (1923)
C. F. Martin Style 2 Model Soprano Ukulele, c. 1923, made in Nazareth, PA, natural varnish finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard.

A good-sounding and playing early 1920's Martin Style 2 mahogany uke. The mid-line Style 2's are fairly rare, as they retailed originally in the $20.00 range, which was quite expensive for a ukulele in the 1920's. Many more style 0's and 1's were sold, and the Style 2 is often overlooked.

Distinguished by its white celluloid binding on the top and back, the Martin Style 2 uke is a neatly attractive instrument and a good value in a top quality 1920's instrument.

Overall length is 20 3/4 in. (52.7 cm.), 6 1/4 in. (15.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 1/4 in. (5.7 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 13 3/4 in. (349 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/16 in. (36 mm.).

Overall good playing condition. The bass side has been French polished over a long almost invisible repair. Several well-repaired back cracks and one small sealed top crack. The rest of the finish is original with numerous small dings but no major wear. The headstock has three initials -- or fraternity letters! -- roughly engraved into the top face, the story of which is long lost. This is a great "gigging" example of a Martin "Golden era" mahogany uke.
C. F.
