Martin 0-15 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1940), made in Nazareth, PA, natural lacquer finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.

A great-playing prewar 0-15, well used and a bit ragged but definitely right. This guitar was built during the very brief period when Martin experimented with tortoise shell plastic peghead overlays, and sports a particularly attractive example of that rare feature. This small mahogany guitar has a surprisingly loud voice, with a lot of definition without losing warmth. While this was the least expensive Martin guitar in 1940, listing for $25.00, it still is built to the expected Martin standard of quality.

Overall length is 38 1/2 in. (97.8 cm.), 13 5/8 in. (34.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/4 in. (10.8 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). This old Martin has had a lot of use and some repair work but is a truly excellent playing and sounding guitar. There is a very old seam repair on the top/side joint along the bottom edge, and several repaired cracks to the top on the lower bass bout. There is a lot of finish wear with some touchup to the top and finish wear overall. There has been a solid neckset and the original bridge has been reglued but not lowered. This is a well-played, much-loved guitar which just rings as either a finger- or flat-picked instrument. Very Good Condition.
C. F.
