Gibson L-50 Model Arch Top Acoustic Guitar (1950), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 5995-22, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, maple back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, hard shell case.
Overall length is 40 1/2 in. (102.9 cm.), 16 1/8 in. (41 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 7/16 in. (8.7 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).
This is a nice period example of an L-50 with some wear but no major alterations. The tuners are repro Klusons Deluxe, but all else is original including the bridge, tailpiece, and oft-missing pickguard. There is one repaired top crack off the front end of the bass side f-hole, neatly cleated and sealed. There is some light play wear overall to the finish, including some pick scratches to the top and a couple of dinks to the back of the neck.
It looks like someone added a floating pickup at some point, leaving a few small but fairly deep dings in the top under the strings halfway between the bridge and fingerboard. A strap button has been added on the underside of the heel. The frets and fingerboard show very little wear. This is a very good-playing and powerful-sounding guitar; now, as in 1950, an excellent value in a full-sized, carved-top Gibson. Excellent - Condition.
