Gibson ES-175 Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1966), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst lacquer finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.
This is a very nice unaltered, and apparently little-used, example of a 1966 ES-175, Gibson's perennial "working man's" electric arch-top. Offering one of Gibson's best combinations of features and value, the ES-175 has been popular since its launch in 1949 and is still considered one of the classic electrics of all time. This dark sunburst beauty is from the 1965-69 period when Gibson narrowed the necks on these instruments to 1 5/8" nut width instead of the traditional 1 11/16", but otherwise is little changed from the late 1950s.
With a single Patent-number humbucking pickup, adjustable rosewood bridge, early '60s-style metal-capped knobs, and "wavy" tailpiece, this 175 has all the classic elements. While to many players it instantly murmurs "jazz" when plugged in, it is actually a fairly versatile guitar suitable for a wide range of styles. Still, this model is mostly associated with many jazz greats including Herb Ellis, Jim Hall, Kenney Burrell, and many more.
Overall length is 40 7/8 in. (103.8 cm.), 16 1/16 in. (40.8 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/8 in. (8.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).
This guitar is very clean overall; the only notable repair is a patched strap button hole high on the heel. Other than that, it shows only very light play wear and handling marks, with some light checking and very little fade. A great example of a period 175, still one of the best straight-ahead hollow-body electrics ever made. Excellent Condition.
