Fender Precision Bass Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1970), made in Fullerton, California, sunburst finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.
A fine example of a Precision Bass, from the very start of the 1970s, still with a very late '60s vibe. The 3-color sunburst is bright and unfaded; combined with old-school P-Bass features like the chrome bridge and pickup covers, tortoise plastic pickguard, and the fingerrest below the strings, this bass has a classic period look. The serial number would be typical for the earlier part of 1970.
The bridge with solid, non-serrated saddles and the long "G" string screw and the narrower "B" width neck are the notable newer features that began around this time, as the '60's turned into the '70's. The neck has a faded "green stamp" code on the heel that is difficult to read while the pots still date to the 17th week of 1966, typical of Fenders from this period. This bass looks great but is also a fine player, lighter than many and great-handling with the sound one would expect. Overall one of the nicest '70s Fender basses we have had.
Overall length is 45 3/4 in. (116.2 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).
This bass is very clean overall; there are a few spots of finish wear on the body but nothing major. There is one small repair just in the corner of the pickguard by the jack and the tailpiece cover has gone missing. Otherwise a complete and original bass in excellent playing condition. The frets have a bit of wear but not enough to impede play. A very nice Precision which includes a late '60's Fender case that shows considerably more wear than the bass. Excellent - Condition.
