Fender Mustang Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1966), made in Fullerton, California, white lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, gig bag case.
This is a nicely worn-in but overall well preserved 1966 Mustang, made about a couple of years after the model's debut in 1964. The Mustang was Fender's classiest student guitar, basically a Duo-Sonic with vibrato and has proved eternal favorite of countless garage bands of the 60's, '70's and 80's. 1966 was the peak production year for the model, with over 16000 produced-more than the Strat, Tele and Jazzmaster combined! The body on this example sports a originally white lacquer finish that has aged to a lovely blonde patina-it actually looks a bit like a '50's Telecaster! The pickguard is laminated plastic with a tortoise pattern top layer, with a brighter look than many. The neck is dated April '66 and actually has some flame figure to the maple, quite unusual for a Mustang! The pots are coded to the 18th week of that 1966. A cool and fairly unique looking Mustang, an American classic and still a great deal in an original 1960's Fender guitar!
Overall length is 39 1/2 in. (100.3 cm.), 12 1/4 in. (31.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) deep. Scale length is 24 in. (610 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). All original, complete except the vibrato arm is a replacement and the top E tuner is the correct period Fender piece but from a higher-priced guitar as it has a silver as opposed to white button. The finish is heavily checked on the body and headstock, but does not show a lot of play wear overall. The bridge saddles show some typical corrosion from contact with the players hand but the rest of the hardware is relatively clean. A good player with just some light fretwear, includes a gig bag case. Excellent - Condition.
