Kalamazoo KG-31 Model Arch Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1936, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst lacquer finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard.
Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 16 1/4 in. (41.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/4 in. (8.3 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). This is a good playing example of this Gibson-made budget archtop, well-worn with some general wear overall, mostly dings and scrapes to the finish. The guitar is complete with all original hardware including the openback strip tuners, adjustable rosewood bridge, Gibson-style tailpiece and even the tortoise celluloid pickguard. With a solid spruce pressed top this KG is better sounding than many Kalamazoo archtops, with a good chunky midrange tone and plenty of volume. This is a very solid guitar with a straight and unusually huge-feeling neck for a Gibson from this period, a nice and very playable piece of depression chic. Overall Very Good + Condition.
