Bay Model Solid Body Electric Guitar, made by National (1953), made in Chicago, grey pearloid finish, hardwood body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, black soft shell case.

A cool and unusual variant of the first solid body from the early 1950's National line. This guitar is essentially the National Model 1122 with an unusual pearloid finish (the stock National was sunburst) and a "BAY" logo on the headstock, which would have belonged to a jobber (wholesaler) or music store. The non-cutaway body is just over 11" wide and 15" long with a full scale neck, making for a very compact but practical package.

The pickup and electronics are mounted over the body, with the controls housed in a hollow molded plastic shell on the treble side of the top and the pickup suspended from the fingerboard. The purple-grey pearloid (the same used by Magnatone) covering the wooden body is very striking-looking. We're not sure who "Bay" was, but they put together a winner here -- this is a very powerful-sounding little guitar with more flash than the standard National!

Overall length is 37 in. (94 cm.), 11 1/16 in. (28.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.).

Appears all original except for an added phone jack on plastic electronics plate (original Anphenol connector still intact) and the base of the tailpiece is replaced. Some small dings and chips in the neck finish, but overall very nicely preserved. A good player and an unusual National electric. Generally Excellent Condition.
