David Nichols 17" Cutaway Model Arch Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1995, made in New York, natural lacquer finish, flame maple body and neck, spruce top, ebony fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.
An extremely attractive and totally distinctive modern archtop guitar with many classic traditional appointments. The instrument combines a 17" carved top body with a sweeping Gibson-style Florentine cutaway and a 5-way laminated maple neck topped with a pedestal-style headstock very reminiscent of D'Angelico. Appointments are extremely deluxe including gold-plated Grover Imperial tuners, gold Oettinger-style adjustable tension tailpiece, and elaborate multiple binding on all edges.
The ebony fingerboard features pearl block inlays bordered in contrasting pearl strips and the original owner's name inlaid at the 19th fret. This instrument is equipped with a floating Johnny Smith style pickup with a D'Angelico style stairstepped multi-bound wooden pickguard, making for a wonderful-sounding guitar played both acoustically and electrically.
Dave Nichols is known as a world-class artisan in pearlcutting as well as guitar building, and this instrument is one of the few archtops he has made to date. A truly unique and especially beautiful modern guitar with a vintage feel.
Overall length is 43 1/2 in. (110.5 cm.), 17 in. (43.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 9/16 in. (9 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.).
Nearly new condition showing very little use. Only some minor finish checking and the lightest fret wear keep this from being described as a mint guitar. Excellent + Condition.
