Gibson GA-50 Previously Owned by Steely Dan's Walter Becker Model Tube Amplifier (1950), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, brown vinyl covering finish.
Height is 18 in. (45.7 cm.), 22 1/4 in. (56.5 cm.) width, and 7 1/2 in. (19 cm.) deep.
This 70-year-old Gibson amp is a bit scruffy overall but remains in good working order. It was in the collection of Steely Dan's Walter Becker until his passing recently, part of an extensive collection of vintage Gibson amplifiers. Internally the amp has had some typical cap work, a grounded 3-prong cord added and the larger speaker reconed. No circuit changes have been made, and the sound is still as warm and dark as ever.
The cabinet shows dings, dents and general wear with a couple of worn-through corners and two noticeable scrapes through the covering across the face. The fragile Gibson logo plate is still intact; this piece is often damaged or missing. The leather handle is a replacement. The Steely Dan studio storage markings are on a large piece of red tape on the right side of the cabinet. This cool and somewhat rare amp was curated by one of the greatest tone connoisseurs we knew, and definitely has its own tonal character. The Walter Becker auction card and tag are included. Excellent Condition.
