Fender Duo-Sonic Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1957), made in Fullerton, California, serial # -18704, desert sand lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck, original brown tolex hard shell case.
This is a nicely original early example of Fender's first two-pickup student guitar…the oft-forgotten Duo-Sonic. Built primarily to expand the company's hold on the teaching studio/young student market these budget guitars were many players' first electric, far more playable than most and stylish in an understated way. The Duo-Sonic is the same guitar as the Musicmaster with a second treble pickup and 3-way selector switch added. It features the same short-scale maple neck and "Desert Sand" finished small solid body. This guitar dates to early 1957 with beautiful undisturbed electronics featuring pots from the 45th week of 1956. The neat, comfortable little neck-dated 2-57- has the classic Fender "rounded V" profile of that period. The original anodized metal pickguard has some typical wear from strumming but still looks sharp! This guitar has not been stripped of its more valuable parts (knobs, neckplate, pots and wiring) as so many have! A neat package, including the original tan case- a very cool and relatively affordable original 1950's Fender guitar.
Overall length is 37 3/4 in. (95.9 cm.), 12 1/4 in. (31.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 22 1/2 in. (572 mm.). Width of nut is 1 9/16 in. (40 mm.). This guitar is all original except for the tuners, which are the correct style but from a later period and marked "Grover Deluxe". There is some light wear overall, most notable to the pickguard but this is a great sounding and playing little guitar. Excellent Condition.
