Gibson LG-2 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1949), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 1996-31, sunburst lacquer finish, Mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top, rosewood bridge and fingerboard, original brown alligator chipboard case.

Overall length is 39 1/8 in. (99.4 cm.), 14 3/16 in. (36 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/8 in. (11.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This late 1940s LG-2 shows some light average wear but remains an excellent player with plenty of volume and a crisp, powerful tone. There are random dings and dents to the finish; the bulk are on the top, including a small spot of fairly concentrated pick wear just off the back edge of the pickguard and some pick strikes just off the back edge of the sound hole. The only crack is a repaired grain split in the typical spot off the top edge of the pickguard, running from bridge to sound hole.

The tuners are older Kluson Deluxe strips as usually seen on this model, but appear about 10-15 years more recent than the instrument itself. There is a bit of finish worn off the sides of the neck in the first position. There are also some small divots in the fingerboard in that area; the frets have been leveled and there is a new nut fitted. The bridge has been lowered just a bit but does not appear to have ever been off, which is a minor miracle with Gibson flat-tops of this period. Playability is excellent, and this would make a very fine recording or performing guitar, a nice example of the post WWII LG. Overall Excellent - Condition.
