Masco Tube Guitar Amplifier (1948), made in Long Island, NY, brown fabric covering finish.
A recent Vintage Guitar Magazine article detailed these amps spectacularly. Here is a short exceprt describing the tone “The amp works best with brighter single-coil pickups,” Lollar says of his MAP-15. “It never gets plinky at lower volumes with cleaner tone settings. It always has a smooth, soft-ish attack with lots of sustain. When you turn it up halfway it starts to get creamy and dirty, and the tone turns from one with a full-range clarity to one with a prominent, tubey midrange.”
Height is 18 in. (45.7 cm.), 15 1/2 in. (39.4 cm.) width, and 8 1/2 in. (21.6 cm.) deep. A nicely original amp with only some standard maintenance repairs; an added 3 prong cord, a proper cap job but no modification to the circuits…original Jensen speaker and newer tubes. The brown covering is relatively well preserved, with some wear on the corners (especially at the bottom edge) and some black staining on one edge of the top. The decal Masco logo on the front is visible, but worn. The back panel is missing one screw, but the cloth is in excellent shape, with one small puncture. The control panel is in excellent shape, with little to no wear to the charming graphics printed on it. A new leather handle (vintage Fender style) has been fitted. This make for a really fine sounding mid-size low-wattage amp, particularly useful to harmonica players with a warm clear tone. Very Good Condition.
