DeArmond Model RHC-B Model Acoustic Guitar Pickup, c. 1960, made in Toledo, Ohio, white plastic coil in chrome surround finish.
Length is 5 1/2 in. (14 cm.), 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) width.
This is a very cool and clean example of DeArmond's classic sound hole pickup for flat-top guitars, the RH-C. The date on the original volume pot is not easily visible, but the cosmetics are typical of the early 1960s. The unit shows some light wear overall (mostly scuffing on the plastic coil cover) but still sounds great. It is currently wired to a female phone output jack that can be slung through (or attached to) a strap but can also be re-wired depending on how it will be used. This pickup was practically ubiquitous in the 1950s and '60s as the primary method of amplifying a flat-top guitar, used famously by Lightnin' Hopkins, Elmore James, Siegel-Schwall and a host of other period blues, folk, and country performers. Excellent Condition.
