Fender Mustang Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1971), made in Fullerton, California, competition red finish, alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, original grey hard shell case.
An nicely original and well preserved competition red Mustang, original and unaltered. This guitar was built near the end of the run for the rather whimsical 'competition' version of the model, with the candy apple red metallic 'car' finish and 'racing' stripe on the body but a natural headstock. One oddity of this guitar is the neck is dated to 1966, but is original to this guitar and carries a decal and finish correct for 1971. Obviously some parts had been laying around the factory unused for a while! The Mustang series was Leo Fender's last original design for the company that bore his name, and has endured as a classic in the student priced arena. This one has pots dated to the 07th week of 1971 but the features (including the snazzy pearloid pickguard) are nearly identical to 1960's models.
Overall length is 39 3/4 in. (101 cm.), 12 1/4 in. (31.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 in. (610 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). Very clean and all original except one bridge screw, just some finish scratches, small dings and light wear overall. One small patched spot to the finish on the face near the controls. Some light fret wear and shallow divots to the fingerboard in the first position. A very nice example, complete with the original grey HSC. Overall Excellent Condition.
