Fender Telecaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1967), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 209099, Blonde lacquer finish, ash body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.
This is an early example of a 1960's Telecaster with a factory-fitted Bigsby vibrato, one of the better new ideas CBS-Fender brought into production after acquiring the company. The CBS blueprints for the "F" branded Bigsby tailpiece were dated to the beginning of September 1967; this guitar's rosewood-fingerboard neck is dated September 1967, and the pots are from mid-1966. The finish is the slightly heavier lacquer typical of 1967 that pre-dates the Polyester experiments CBS indulged over the next couple of years. This guitar has had some restoration (detailed below) but remains a clean and excellent playing example of this fairly rare model.
Overall length is 38 3/4 in. (98.4 cm.), 12 5/8 in. (32.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). This instrument has had some alteration in the past but has been recently restored to its original state with correct wiring and a perfect original 1967-era pickguard. Underneath that there are two large routs; one for a center-position humbucking pickup and a second down into the lower "horn" of the body presumably to fit some sort of additional controls. These were fairly neatly done; as the guitar currently weighs just unser 8 1/2 Lbs. After some consideration we elected not to fill them in, so the result is a "chambered' Telecaster a bit ahead of its time! The rest of the instrument remains original; there are no finish alterations and only light wear, and all hardware is correct. Obviously several solder joints in the control cavity have been redone and there are a couple of wire splices but the pots and switch are the original equipment. The frets are original; there is wear in the lower positions and the crowns been taken down somewhat but the guitar is still quite playable. This is a nice playing and good souinding old Tele, with some questionable decisions in its past but now restored to the straight Fender path! Includes a nice original HSC. Overall Excellent - Condition.
