Fender Jaguar Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1963), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 96954, sunburst lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original blond tolex hard shell case.

A very nice Pre-CBS Jaguar from early 1963 with typical period features: unbound rosewood fingerboard with clay dot inlay, blended 3-color sunburst, gold "transition" logo decal. The Fender Jaguar has returned to favor somewhat in the last decade but remains an under-appreciated guitar with several interesting features. The model features the same vibrato unit and rhythm/lead circuit as the Jazzmaster with the addition of individual on/off switches for the pickups; the "Jag" is a very flexible guitar with a lot of sonic options. The scale length is shorter than other top-line Fender guitars and the pickups are optimized for clarity and crispness…factors that led to the Jaguar losing popularity in the late '60's as twang went out and distortion and crunch came in! Nevertheless these are top-of-the line 60's Fenders; extremely popular with surfers, twangers and the like when new and still very high quality guitars.

Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 14 in. (356 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). A good player in a Pre-CBS Jaguar with a great vibe; worn in with some typical wear to the body lacquer (chips, dings, etc.) but no major finish loss. Some light fret wear but still very playable. The guitar is all original except the lead pickup is the correct period and style but not original to this guitar-it is actually about a year later and features the staggered poles introduced in mid-1964. Both pickups have a good strong output and this is a very cool sounding Jaguar-the middle position is out of phase making for a particularly snarly sound. No other changes; includes the original brown case and Fender hangtag manual. Overall Very Good + Condition.
