Kalamazoo KHG-14 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1936), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 1140B, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, hard shell case.
Overall length is 38 1/2 in. (97.8 cm.), 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/8 in. (11.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 15/16 in. (49 mm.). This originally Hawaiian guitar has been beautifully converted for Spanish style play; The neck has been reset, the original bridge re-worked with a compensated saddle and the nut lowered, and the tuners are correct style openback repros. Very little finish wear; most notably some dings to the sides around the neck heel that look like old bar marks. There are no other major finish flaws, only light dings and checking. No damage or repairs but there is a screw-sized small hole in the back of the headstock of indeterminate origin. Simple the best-sounding Kalamazoo flat top we have ever had; these 12-fret Kalamazoos are quite rare and in many ways are a better design than the much more common standard 14-fret model. This is a spectacular player and an unbelievably well-preserved pre-war instrument. Excellent + Condition.
