Gibson L-00 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1934), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard.

An extremely well-preserved, nicely original example of Gibson's early-mid-1930s 14-fret small body flat-top classic. The guitar's single-bound spruce top exhibits a VERY small sunburst area, a dark firestripe pattern celluloid pickguard, 3-ply soundhole ring, and unbound back. The rosewood fingerboard has a simple pearl dot inlay and ebony nut, and the neck has a deep but not too sharp "V"-profile and very narrow heel. The original tuners are Depression-era specials; stamped single-piece strips with white celluloid buttons. The headstock is adorned with a white screened Gibson logo. This is a very lightly built and extremely responsive guitar, a favorite for many playing styles and a true 1930s gem.

Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/8 in. (8.6 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 13/16 in. (46 mm.).

A lovely, excellent-playing example, original down to the tuners, bridgepins, and endpin. The only alteration is a somewhat charming truss rod cover hand-cut from a white material, likely when the guitar was fairly new. There is average light wear overall and evidence of an old bridge re-glue, as well as some dings and scrapes, but is in very fine structural condition.

The saddle has been lowered somewhat, but the bridge itself is uncut; the ebony nut is a nice accurate repro. There is an area of what looks like contact damage from a vinyl strap (or something similar) down the back, not especially deep but visible close up. This is a very good-sounding L-00, better preserved than many of these extremely lightly built guitars, with a well-rounded tone and plenty of volume. Overall Excellent - Condition.
