Dobro 8-String Conversion Model Resophonic Guitar, c. 1970's, made in Los Angeles, California, sunburst lacquer finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.

This unusual instrument appears to be a 1970's factory conversion of an older 6-string Dobro Model 27 to an 8-string format. The neck is a 14-fret squareneck with 8 openback grover Sta-Tite tuners. The Tailpiece is a 12-string piece of German origin (Hofner-style), the cone and custom saddle are pure OMI-Dobro. The top of the headstock is stamped "REP." indicating a factory repair in place of a serial number. All work and parts appear consistent with an early-mid 1970's period; this was somebody's dream instrument at one time! An interesting twist on the conventional Dobro!

Overall length is 39 7/8 in. (101.3 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/8 in. (8.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 2 1/4 in. (57 mm.). Appears unaltered and indeed little used since its conversion; some small dings and chips (the most notable to the back) and some light plating wear. Eccentric but very cool, a really interesting sounding instrument! Overall Excellent Condition.
