Gibson L-1 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1931), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black soft shell case.

This lovely old Gibson L-1 is a fascinating mix of features -- a 1920's style wide, round-backed 12-fret neck and very small dark sunburst top with new 1930's details including a firestripe celluloid pickguard and white script "Gibson" logo. The early Gibson flat tops were constantly evolving and this mid-1931 example catches the L-1 in a particularly prime spot, an exceptionally responsive finger-picking instrument with enough power in reserve to make a good flat-picked guitar as well. 12-fret L-1's are a traditional favorite around here and this is one of the best we have had.

Overall length is 38 3/4 in. (98.4 cm.), 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/2 in. (11.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).

Some light wear and tear, mostly small dings and some scratches around the soundhole and playwear on the back of the neck. Top center seam resealed and one repaired back crack (solid but not the neatest job), otherwise a very solid and original guitar. Tuners, bridge, and even bridgepins are original. Truly great sound and a very fine player. Excellent Condition.
