Gibson EB-0 Model Electric Bass Guitar (1964), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, cherry lacquer finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, original black soft shell case.
This EB-0 is a fairly rare instrument, as before 1965 these basses were built in the hundreds, not thousands as would be the case later in the decade (production just topped 1,000 for the first time in 1964). An early '64, this example has nickel-plated metal hardware, including the pickup cover (in place of the earlier black plastic) and the big chunky "Jack Bruce"-style neck phased out in 1965. There was never a mute fitted to this bass, making lower bridge settings possible.
The sound is typically huge and booming. This is an especially nice EB; light, perfectly balanced, and a far superior-feeling bass to the many later 1960's and 70's EB's commonly found.
Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 13 1/4 in. (33.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/4 in. (3.2 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 30 in. (762 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).
100% original with only minor handling/play wear; some fade and checking to finish. Set up with flatwound strings for that vintage thump. Includes original softshell case. Excellent + Condition.
