Fender Stratocaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1954), made in Fullerton, California, sunburst lacquer finish, ash body, maple neck, original tweed hard shell case.
This fabulous guitar is one of the earliest Stratocasters we have ever seen, a historically important Fender instrument. With the growing appreciation for the significance of Leo Fender's contribution to 20th century musical technology, early examples of his creations have proved more than ever to be among the most desirable and collectible of vintage instruments.
This Stratocaster dates to the late spring/early summer of 1954 and would be among the earliest production models sold; the first announcement of the new model to the music trade was in April 1954 and noted that "shipments are expected to begin May 15." Fender production supervisor Forrest White has stated that the first actual production order from Fender sales for Stratocasters was not received until October of 1954, and he considers all earlier examples to be prototypes. Stratocasters like this one produced before that date were sold locally out of the factory or used by salesmen to demonstrate the new model. These are extremely rare guitars!
This particular example, serial # 0467, is dated XX 1954 on the neck and XX 54 in the tremolo cavity.
Overall length is 38 15/16 in. (98.9 cm.), 12 3/4 in. (32.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 in. (2.5 cm.) deep. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.).
Well-played but not abused, this early Stratocaster has moderate playwear overall but no major repairs or modifications. Very Good + Condition.
