12 String Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, most likely made by Regal, c. 1930, made in Chicago, natural lacquer finish, mahogany body, spruce top, black hard shell case.

This is an extremely rare example of a pre-WWII flat top 12 string guitar in amazingly well preserved condition, with only the most minor playwear.

Similar to the more familiar Stella guitars made in Jersey City by Oscar Schmidt, this Grand Concert sized 12 string shows evidence of having been built in Chicago, most likely by Regal, although Harmony, Stromberg-Voisinet, and JR Stewart could also be possibilities.

These unbranded instruments were built for various jobbers across the country, who sold them to local music stores and studios. This one is decorated with a beautiful color stencil Hawaiian scene, most unusual (and incongruous) for a 12 string!

Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 14 1/2 in. (36.8 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 in. (10.2 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 26 1/4 in. (667 mm.).

Superbly preserved. Most 12 strings of this vintage require major structural work just to be playable, but this guitar plays perfectly and shows only the most minor signs of use. No cracks or repairs, only light finish wear, mostly just below the soundhole.
