Gibson ES-125T Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1960), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # R6758-12, sunburst top, dark stained back and sides finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown alligator chipboard case.

This is a VERY clean 1960 ES-125T, one of Gibson's lesser known 1950-60s electric archtop guitars. It offers the same single pickup P-90 rig as the more common full-depth ES-125 on a thinline 16" non-cutaway F-hole body. This model was introduced in 1956 and had a big year in 1960 with exactly 1400 shipped out of Kalamazoo. The thinner body gives it less of a "jazzy" character although the sound is not really all that different.

There were no serial numbers proper on these "amateur" grade models in 1960 (that would change the next year) but the "R" series Factory Order Number stamped under the treble side F-hole confirms the date. Although lacking the familiar cutaway this is a slim and handy hollowbody electric guitar offering a single hot-sounding P-90 pickup on its laminated, single bound maple body with a dark sunburst finish top. This one has the wide, flatter neck profile typical of 1960 topped with an unbound dot-inlaid fingerboard.

The hardware is typical for the period with one black plastic covered P-90 pickup, Kluson deluxe strip tuners, metal-capped amber plastic knobs, tortoise celluloid pickguard, nickel plated trapeze tailpiece and an adjustable rosewood bridge. The appointments are simple but the sound is great with the typical rip-roaring P-90 attack. With its non cutaway body this makes a GREAT electric slide guitar (it stops your hand right in that perfect Elmore James 12th fret spot) and if not particularly versatile is a nice classy roots-oriented machine for a variety of playing styles.

Overall length is 40 1/2 in. (102.9 cm.), 16 1/16 in. (40.8 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This is a very nice, clean original guitar overall showing not much wear for 65 years on the planet. There is some very light checking and minor finish wear, mostly scuffing and scratching to the back. The instrument is original and complete except the baseplate and arms of the oft-broken tailpiece, which are chrome plated so probably from the later 1960s; the nickel plated cross piece is original. Even the plastic buttons on the original Kluson Deluxe tuners are intact.

There is very light wear to the fingerboard and frets which were recently polished. This super light and handy guitar remains a great player with a amazingly powerful sound, sweet at lower volume and furious when cranked. It lives in the original '50s style alligator-grain chipboard case. Overall Excellent Condition.
