Boss OD-1 Model Overdrive Effect (1980), made in Japan, yellow enamel finish.

There are few pedals more recognizable and universally beloved by guitarists than the Boss line of effects pedals: affordable, produced en masse, and offered in a (now) classic array of bright colors. Followed by the PH-1 Phaser and Sp-1 Spectrum pedals, the OD-1 became the first ever Boss offering to come in the classic "compact" pedal standard size in 1977. The pedal has come to be recognized by the golden yellow paint now ascribed to almost a dozen variants of the OD-1, including "Super, Turbo, and Dual" plays on the circuit. The original itself is often considered the closest predecessor of the Ibanez Tube Screamer.

The pedal itself needs little explanation; it has just two knobs: one for level, one for the amount of overdrive. While this pedal does not veer into uncontrollable high gain territory (despite being a beloved choice with metal bands of the time) it generally ranges from an "always on" touch of grit to rich, warm drive that plays nicest with tubes and layers well into other gain staging pedals. This particular example is not the very first edition, but the slightly later round of "silver screw" OD-1s. These are considered the most coveted with an RC340d chip and, of course, a silver screw now somewhat faded after decades of use.

Height is 4 3/4 in. (12.1 cm.), 2 1/2 in. (6.4 cm.) width, and 2 1/8 in. (5.4 cm.) in depth at deepest point., 1 lbs.

This pedal is in overall clean and original condition with a few small dings and scratches as are customary after a few decades of being stomped on. The pedal runs fine off battery or external power, though we warn users to ensure they have an appropriate AC adaptor to accommodate the pedal before plugging in a standard 9V. Simply running the pedal off battery alone is always a safe and tonally rich bet. The pedal does not come with a box. Overall Excellent - Condition.
