Fender Stratocaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1963), made in Fullerton, California, serial # L22791, sunburst lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, tweed hard shell case.

What we have here is basically about HALF of a fantastic original "Real Relic" Pre-CBS player's Stratocaster; this instrument consists of a beautiful and massively weathered original body and neck but with NONE of the original electronics. Got a refinished or cosmetically questionable '63 with a full rig? Here's the other half of a perfect match! This Strat sounds and plays great as it is, but has a LOT of potential as a restoration candidate.

The body, neck, neckplate and screws, jack cup and bridge/trem assembly are authentic and original to the guitar. Five of the six tuners are the original single-line Klusons; one is a *slightly* later 60s double-line. The strap buttons are '80s Straploks, the trem arm a repro. The trem is set up with 3 springs, the other two are in the case. The white plastic pickguard and everything attached to it are excellent quality aftermarket parts, the original assembly is apparently long gone.

The sunburst alder body and clay-dot neck maple date to later 1963, with a date stamp of NOV63 on the heel and an 22xxx L-series neckplate. Both are heavily worn to a level modern "relicers" constantly try to emulate. The fingerboard has been planed, trued and refretted long ago with some filled divots; the frets are not oversized as many older refrets tend to be but do show some wear. The neck is superbly naturally worn down and feels divine with that "worn-in Fender' vibe that everyone tries to artificially re-create today. The decal on the headstock is in surprisingly good shape.

The body has heavy finish wear everywhere but is not yet in Rory Gallagher/SRV territory! The pickguard is an older white plastic (not "green guard" style) repro; it is a '61-2 screw pattern so one extra hole was drilled in the body to fit it. The pickups are older Seymour Duncan SS-1 (the 1R markings on the bases indicate they were wound by Connie Rocha) and the entire wiring rig is stylistically correct (except the switch is a 5-way) and professionally done with cloth wire. This is a great playing and sounding Strat as it stands, but we can't help but think maybe there is another '63 out there that has other half of this equation!
